Quotable Sunday

“It’s easy to believe in magic when you’re young.  Anything you couldn’t explain was magic then.  It didn’t matter if it was science or a fairy tale.  Electricity and elves were both infinitely mysterious and equally possible – elves probably more so.”  ~Charles de Lint

The Puppet Theater, And A WIP As Well

So last night J and I were able to catch a show!  We were so excited.  We gave the ticket taker our tickets, grabbed a cold beverage from concessions and found our seats.  The puppet show had a spooky Halloween theme.  Very thrilling!  The puppeteer was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

As for the WIP…a holiday gift for my little one.  Can you tell what I’m making?  It’s my first one and I’m having so much fun with it.  I’ll post more pictures of the progress.

What are you doing this weekend?
Peace!

A Gardening Post!

This weather has been fantastic!  Temps in the mid 70’s by day and 50’s at night.  After all the rain we finally had a couple weeks ago, and with cooler temps, the plants all came alive.  I can’t believe the growth, although it’s starting to slow with the cooler nights, but everything is thriving so far.  The last hurrah before the cooler temps start taking their toll.  I did manage to get alot of things done in the gardens over the weekend.  The garden below that used to be the vegetable garden has been completely transformed and I’m seeing a truly sacred space coming through.  I made a path with rocks from our property, planted wildflower seeds and other spring blooming flower seeds, cleaned up the weeds and allowed the area to whisper what it wanted to be.  I’m excited about the transformation and look forward to helping bring out it’s real self some more.  I do have to finish lining the path with more rocks, and then a nice thick layer of mulch on top of that and in the beds.  Once the cucumber plant (looking sad but producing!) is finished I want some kind of artistic garden feature for the middle.  Haven’t seen it in my mind’s eye yet so any suggestions would be appreciated!

We also got our bulbs planted today…daffodils, more freesias and ranunculus.  The kids all helped.  I can’t wait for them to bloom in the spring so the little ones can see their work explode with color.

My raised beds are working wonderfully.  The vegetables are all growing and look very healthy.  One of the tomato plants is just gorgeous, although no tomatoes yet.  Probably too cool now, but I’m going to make a hoop house to cover it and it’s siblings over the winter and see how we fare.  We’ll  see how it goes.  The fun of experimentation makes it worth the effort.

Hope everyone’s week goes by with joy and laughter and lots of love!

Poncho, Spider and Creativity

So here is a project I finished for my little Farm Girl.  We were completely inspired by Shelley over at Waldorf Mama and her creation for her little one.   The pattern is about as easy as it gets and was really fun to knit.  Lola saw the rainbow colors on Shelley’s site and had to have one.  The only real change I made on this pattern was to crochet a yoke as Lola has narrow shoulders and a long lean torso, so even the smallest size was slipping off her shoulders.   I also added a couple extra rows per color to compensate for the extra length she needed.  The success of this project was shown last week when my darling one just had to wear it everyday to school, and came home exclaiming that her friends now wanted me to knit for them.  We’ll see how far I get with my other holiday gifts..shh…

Spider projects were on the agenda tonight.  Lola had to research a spider, make a model and find 8 facts to present to her class.  She chose the Jumping Spider .  We researched and found our facts over the last couple of days, and so tonight was all about the model.  We made our own clay and she created her spider based on pictures we found online.  Then it was baked and painted.  Lola wrote out her 8 facts on strips of paper which I then attached to the legs of her model after the paint was dry.  What fun it was to create!  She had a blast not only with the clay, but practicing her presentation and learning about her creepy crawly friend.  I’m very proud of how she threw herself into this project.
Lola wasn’t the only one expressing her creativity, Xi got in on the action too.  These are her creations, which since have been baked and will be painted tomorrow.  The small one is her interpretation of a bee and the larger one is a funky giraffe.  Hah!  I love them!

The girls had so much fun with this project, that I do believe I have some ideas for them for the holidays and expressing even more of their gift giving creativity.
Hope you are having a creative, warm, happy week!
Peace!

Sorry For The Delay

To all those out there who are so gracious about reading my blog, I apologize for the sketchy updates this month.  It’s been busy around here but all is well!  I have been finding my knitting zone once again, as well as enjoying our cooler weather!  The garden is still going strong, although I’m pretty sure the window for tomatoes is over so the plants will be pulled this weekend..*sob*  However it only means there will be room for more cooler weather veggies, including winter squash…Yum!

The girls are thriving.  Growing and changing everyday.  Lola is thrilled with school, new friends and experiences.  Xi is loving being a big 4 year old and reveling in some new found independence within our household.  J is well and so am I.  We are looking forward to the holidays and magic that this time of year ushers in.

I will have garden picture updates as well and crafting experiences up in the next few days and promise to squeeze in some time in between our new/old routines to at least just say hello.

Much love and Peace to everyone!

Goblin Glow

We went to the Goblin Glow event last night with the kids at the local City Park.  Live music, face-painting and other activities for the kids, a movie in the park and hot air balloons that the kids got to trick or treat at.  They had a blast!  We didn’t stay for the movie, but the kids didn’t mind as they got to see friends and run around after a sugar rush…haha!  They wore their costumes and we all had a great time in the night with the glow of the balloons and good friends around.

Today is getting ready for the week day, but I find myself wanting to be outside in the garden instead.  The weather is absolutely fantastic!  The garden is loving the sunshine after all the rain and looks better than ever.  Soon it will be time to start cutting back all the perennials and getting ready for the winter.  But right now I may forget about the mop for a bit and go play in the dirt.

Hope your weekend is gobliny good and full of sunshine and laughter!

Every few minutes the balloon operators would stoke the fires

And the balloons would glow

So pretty in the night.

Friends and candy (limited quantities of course)…a possibly dangerous combination.  hah!

Luckily the girls ran off their sugar rush so going to bed wasn’t too difficult when we got home.

Peace!
