This Moment

Following in the footsteps of many of my blogger friends, and specifically Amanda at Soulemama,  I am attempting to make this a Friday ritual.

A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you’re inspired to do the same, leave a link to your ‘moment’ in the comments for all to find and see.

Have a wonderful weekend!  Peace!

Two More To Love!

My niece and nephew have made their debut and couldn’t be more perfect!  New Mommy wrote on her Facebook page:

Born on April 8th – Vivienne Westwood, Biz Markie, and now Riley Anne and Dylan David Jones! Riley is 6lb 11oz, Dylan is 5lb 14oz. We are all doing great! Pics to follow soon 🙂 they are perfect in every way…”

I am soooooo excited for them and can’t wait to see more pictures.  They are as healthy as can be!  🙂

Peace!

Do You Ever Feel Like It Never Ends?

The laundry…the dishes…the cleaning…the cooking…you get the picture.  Hah!  Today I have so much to do and it just seems like the days are way too short to get everything done.  Somedays, all I want to do is sit and knit.  In my defense for whining right now, I do take care of extra kids during the week…I love them all so much, but do get tired sometimes.   Haha!

There are many excellent things happening in my world too, it’s not all piled under laundry and dishes!  My dear dear sister is giving birth to her first children on Thursday.  Yes, I said children.  A boy and a girl!  She’s been a trouper through all she’s gone through to get pregnant and then carry twins to over 38 weeks.  I’m so proud of her and excited for her and my bro in law!  Can’t wait to see the pictures…Check her out at Happy High Heels.

Also, J’s sisters are visiting!  His oldest sister and her two wonderful children are here all the way from Australia!  We have been having the best time.  I swear I could just keep them all.  I wonder if they’d be mad if I sabotaged their trip home in a few weeks…hmmm.  The kids, Chai and Lilee are so much fun to be around.  They and the girls clicked from the moment they saw each other.  This is our first meeting of them as S and her husband (an Aussie) moved to Oz while J and I were still in Hawaii.  Then they adopted their two lovelies the same years we had the girls.  So it’s been close to 11 years since we last saw them, and of course only had pictures and videos of the kids.  We are in-love to say the least.  They go to Steiner schools in Australia, so we are all on the same page with how we are as parents.  It’s so easy!!!

Hunting Easter Eggs as the sun came up.

J’s other sister is flying in this afternoon with her partner and the girls are so excited to see their aunties they can’t stand it!  Xi corresponds with their dog, Wink and keeps saying that maybe Wink will sneak on the plane..haha!  Seriously, she sends letters and L sends emails from Wink back to Xi.  It’s very cute!  I can’t wait to see them though…L writes Lelo in Nopo, and is an extremely talented writer, artist and all around person.  She’s also a gardener extroidenaire!  Her and my in-laws are my true gardening inspirations.

Which brings us to the garden.  It’s growing by leaps and bounds!  Here are a few photos to share, most of them were taken last week and there has been a ton of growth since!  I do need to get back to the piles around here and then get ready to go to the eye doctor.

Hope you all find some amazing bright lights in your times of overwhelming chaos!  Peace!

When Did She Grow So Big?

My first daughter is quickly turning into a young lady.  She just celebrated birthday 7…7 years already!!  I will post pictures from that day and her joint party with her cousin, Chai (who is visting all the way from Australia…we are so happy they are here!) soon.  But I just received this photo from this year’s soccer pics…who is that girl?!  When did my little baby turn into a real kid and how do I slow this down?

Life is speeding by way too fast.  I wish I could find someway to slow down time.  I blink and they are bigger…I’m trying to savor every moment.  These girls are all light and love to us…I have to say I do laugh with them everyday and feel so amazingly grateful to have this time, no matter how fast it goes.

Hope your day is slow and easy.  Peace!

Projects Everywhere!

So this weekend was a big one for all of us.  The girls went to Grandma and Papa’s for the weekend, first time away for an entire weekend for Xiola.  They had a blast!

While they were gone, J and I got to work finishing up some major house projects.  I mentioned re-doing the girls room.  Well it is painted and re-organized…and man it feels good in there now!  Their room before was a really wierd shade of blue that showed every smudge and finger mark, not to mention crayon.  There is a loft in the room that we left alone as that is Lola’s space and we gave her free range up there with the drawing.  So the ceiling and walls are mini masterpieces.  It’s very Frank Zappa of us, I know..haah!  When people come to visit they sign the wall, so the girls have all these autographs, pictures and symbols drawn up there to remember by.  It’s a fun little space.

But the rest of the room is very small.  We want to get them bunks but have to wait on those for a bit.  They do have a trundle bed, so that works out.  The space itself is so small though that it has been difficult trying to figure out what goes where.  Not to mention all the little things that make their way into there.  So while the girls were gone, Mama got out the donation box and consolidated.  They now have two wicker baskets in the little cabinet under the loft stairs that hold blocks in one and toys in the other.  Another basket is used for playsilks and a wooden baby bed for all their babies.  They have their wood stove and a bookshelf along with Xi’s dresser (Lola’s is in the closet).  It works!  I like the room because it now has some character and is so pared down and organized that it isn’t overwhelming anymore.  I almost don’t want to hang anything else on the walls!

They have a pocket door that we are going to take off and paint with chalkboard paint on the inside, and the little wall next to that will have cork board so they can hang their drawings without taping them all over the walls….in every room….and on every door….can you see a theme here?  Hah!

So that’s the long explanation for their room….unfortunately I don’t have any “before” pictures as I didn’t think about taking them in my zeal to get the room done.  But here are the after:

With the trundle out.
The door here leads to another room that is more of a playroom.  It houses the ferrets and a few toys but not much is in there at the moment.

The next major project that we did was the living room.  At one time that room had been a bedroom, so had a closet and an exterior door.  When the original owners of this house added on the dining room, they put in another exterior door, right next to the first one.  Didn’t make sense to us, but it was a better front door that the first one, so we never used the one leading into the living room.  Both the closet and that door however made that space tiny.  In order to get more natural light, we had to open the door and that made the room feel even smaller.  So we did what any DIYer would do, we knocked out the closet and changed the door to a window!

We have friends down the street who have remodel many a home, so she and I decided to take on the task.  We spent a Saturday and knocked down the closet and ripped out the door.  The men showed up part way through and another neighbor so we made a party of it and by that night had a new wall, window and ceiling where the closet had been.  After a couple weeks of mudding and texturing, thanks to our good friend down the street (thank you Scotty!), we were ready for paint and completing the transformation.

Here are the before pictures:

The nemesis of a closet.

You can see how much space this thing took up.  And the wierd other door when opened up to let light in just made the room shrink even more.

Springtime Bedding

I finally finished the girls blankets and pillows!  Yay me!  They are made with Anna Maria Horner’s Folksy Flannel fat quarter bundles.  I love her designs so much.  They just make me smile.

This weekend we paint their room and finish rearranging.  We want to get them bunk beds, but those will have to wait for now.  They have a trundle bed, so are fine until we can get the bunks.  We are simplifying and reorganizing, which will make life alot easier on all of us when it comes to picking up…we hope anyway.  Hah!

For now, here are the things I’ve crafted for them.  Enjoy!

Peace!

Xiola’s blanket and pillow, along with my first Log Cabin Quilted pillow for the living room.  Lola’s blanket is identical to Xi’s except I made the squares bigger. (I didn’t get a picture of it for this post but will for a future one.)

Log Cabin Pillow.  Tutorial came from Dacia Ray and is super easy to follow.  I’m sure my measurements were a bit off as I ended up with a more rectangular pillow cover, but the good thing about these types of pillows is they still work even if not square.

Pillow cases!  Xi’s is pink and Lola’s is blue.  The tutorial came from Film In The Fridge.  Great tutorial!
