Introducing William Eben Sparks!

My darling little grandson was born on March 27, 2009 at 6:12 pm. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 5 oz., 20″ long and is just the most beautiful baby! We are all just madly in-love already and cannot wait to hold him and snuggle him! We’ll get to do that next Saturday and I just cannot wait!!! He looks almost exactly like Jonathon did at birth, except William has almost black hair like me and my family.
Welcome my darling boy!! I just can’t wait to see you in person…
Peace!
Happy Birthday Lola!!
Fabulous Weekend
So this weekend we ventured out of our immediate area and went to spend Saturday at the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park in Stonewall. They were sponsoring a kite day out there for children and taught the kids to make old fashion kites out of paper and fabric strips for tails. The girls had a blast designing and coloring their kites. Once they were finished, everyone went out to the field and got to try them out. It was so exciting when they flew! X was thrilled and said it felt like it would lift her off the ground. L ran and ran with hers and kept it up for quite awhile. The weather was gray and cold, but the breeze was just right so we didn’t mind it.
After the kite flying, we loaded the girls up in their new wagon along with lunch and set out for a picnic. Along the way we saw Longhorns and even crossed a bridge!
We saw a statue of LBJ and a beautiful Redbud blooming amongst the end-of-winter gloom.
Along the way to the picnic area, we stopped to tour the Sauer-Beckman Farmstead. This is a living history farm that is run just as it was in 1915. It was fabulous and we learned quite a bit on our little visit. They reuse everything, right down to empty bottles in the garden. X really liked the sheep and chickens walking around. There was the blacksmith barn with all the tools hanging and giant colanders they use to cook outdoors and when making sausage. It is definitely worth the drive out there and we plan on visiting again soon.

After lunch the girls played on the swing set, then we packed up and headed back through the nature trail. It was really beautiful in there. We came to where the Longhorns were and the White Tail Deer were out and very curious. X was especially excited to get up close and personal.

By the time we got back to the car the girls were tired out and fell asleep almost as soon as we pulled out of the park. We drove into Fredericksburg and looked around but didn’t get out. It is a really interesting German town with alot of history. That will be our next venture out in the Texas Hill Country. We had such a wonderful day, and realized it cost us nothing except the gas to get there. You can’t beat that!
Sunday we spent working around the house and J did yard maintenance in the back – trimming trees, pulling weeds, etc.. Alot of work actually as he cleared the entire back of our property. We were tired but satisfied by the end of the evening.
Today is just beautiful out and the girls are enjoying themselves immensely. How wonderful is it for kids to sit outside in the fresh warm air, enjoying the sunshine and eating Popsicles?
Hope your weekend was just as fun! Peace!

Blessings…
Sometimes things come to us in the craziest of ways, and sometimes in the knick of time. Jason was able to get this beauty for us from a remodel. It was going to be donated, so they gave it to us. We’ve been living with a little tiny fridge that wasn’t much taller than me (I’m only 5′ 3″). We freeze alot of our vegies, and have been wanting to do meat chickens again but had no space for all that. We were going to just get a freezer, but then this came along and we decided this was way better. Haha! So here it is, the newest addition to the farm…Jason calls it Darth (totally reminds us of something from Star Wars!)
You can see a part of the little fridge in this pic. We are going to move that down to our studio and use it for overflow and beverages when we get our “beer garden” built someday.
I keep hearing Darth Vader’s theme song in my head when I walk in the kitchen, wonder how long that will last?
Peace!
New Friends!
Well…I’ll get the pictures up later today, but we got the Showgirls! They are the cutest, ugliest things I’ve ever seen. HAHA! We also got Mongo banded, poor boy. But had to be done. He’s fine today and will be a great pet!
More later!
Birth…
This could, or might not be, farm related…but it is important to me none-the-less. First a little background:
We had homebirths with both our girls…specifically waterbirths. Both experiences, while vastly different (just as the girls personalities are very different), were the most intense/wonderful/amazing/magical/scary/thrilling experiences of our lives thus far. We used several resources in our quest for the perfect birth for us when pregnant with our older girl, Lola. One of the main resources we used was Waterbirth International. This is an amazing resource for anyone who is interested in waterbirth, or even birth in general. Barbara Harper is one of the most gracious, knowledgable, caring women I’ve had the pleasure to communicate with in this area. She is the author of the book Gentle Birth Choices, a must resource book for anyone interested in birth.
I’m sure you are beginning to wonder what my point is in this post. Well, Waterbirth International was started by Barbara Harper as a way to reach out to the global community and share these gentle birth choices with each other. They host seminars, train men and women in gentle birth practices, including waterbirths…they donate hours of time and emotions to helping families realize the birth of their dreams. They are a non-profit organization which does so much good in this field that I could go on and on. But I am asking that you take a look at them yourself. They are in serious need of help and are in danger of having to close their doors. Please look at their website, share it with others who might be interested. If you can donate even a dollar to them, it will help.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, to see their website and to give even a moment spreading the word about this group. Namaste and peace!
Charlie Wilson’s War
This was a very good film. The acting was decent, but the story was really good. Makes one think about the state of affairs of today in the political arena. We really enjoyed it. We saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse, which, if you are ever in Austin, is a “must go to” place. 🙂 Good food, good beer, good atmosphere! We had a really nice anniversary evening.
