I love sunflowers. They come in all different shapes and sizes. The giant sunflowers have tasty seeds. They bring birds, bees and butterflies to my garden. They provide a great “screen” for our front fence. They have provided shade and hiding places for the chickens. And they look great in my windowsill.
My favorite sunflowers of all time are Mexican sunflowers. I love the brilliant red/orange petals against the deep green leaves. We have 2 just starting to bloom, and the hummingbirds are happy!

Hi Cat…I forgot how much I liked the mexican sunflower. Nice group of photos. We have been busy this week with our county fair. I have been on vacation for about three weeks but after a week at the fair grounds,,,hanging out in the hog barn all day,,,I’m ready to go back to work to get some rest. PEACE
Ooooh, just discovered a NEW blog! I agree with you on sunflowers – so easy and so pretty. My husband isn’t a fan, which has more of an entertaining effect on me rather than detering me from planting them.
Have you ever grown Jerusalem Articokes/Sunchokes? I’m planting some this Fall and they kind of resemble Sunflowers. Plus, they are perennial and you can eat them!
