Wildlife Habitat

Notice That Little Sign To The Right?

Yep, we are officially certified from the National Wildlife Federation as a Wildlife Habitat! We want to get certified through the state of Texas now, but that’s ALOT more work, so a cataloging I go! Our goals are to encourage wildlife habitats in our neighborhood as it’s better for the environment and for the beauty of the area, not to mention the amazing amounts of wildlife we have attracted. They are happy creatures and it makes us feel good to be contributing and teaching our kids the importance of creating such environments in this world over-run with concrete.

Have you thought about it? Check it out, it’s not too hard!

  1. Woot, Cat! Are you going to order the sign for your yard, too? Our neighborhood now has two signs on display — ours and my gardening buddy's. We have another neighbor who is very old school "water lawn, fertilize lawn, rake all leaves, etc." — we wanted to post the signs to encourage the opposite approach to gardening in our neighborhood. πŸ™‚

  2. Congrats, Cat!
Our yard has been certified for 7 years now. We have our sign out in our green belt at the back of our property. Lots of people ask about the sign… first thinking we have a gas line going through the yard, hehe, BUT it's great, because then it gives us an opportunity to push the program, and we happily show off all the little nooks and crannies around the yard that are provided for our feathered and furry friends! Well done!

  3. That's great! It's a nice feeling to know we're helping the wildlife and our environment. I had our yard certified years ago, once I read about it I went to work on making sure we had what was required, and then some. Getting our yard certified changed the way I garden in many ways.

  4. I'm so glad you posted this. I've seen the sign at a friend's house and wanted one for ours–now I'm hoping I can click on that image and find out how to get one too. Thanks!
